Classes and Schedules OLD

Pardis for Children is a fun and loving environment where children come together to learn about the Persian language and culture, hear the music and melodies of Iran, be surrounded by Persian books, and interact with other Iranian American children. Classes are designed for children who are being raised in the United States by Iranian and/or foreign parents. We have adapted a hybrid of progressive teaching philosophies and methods to introduce the Persian culture and language in a fun, creative and stimulating way. The children learn Persian vocabulary and different aspects of the culture through discovery, art, music, play and storytelling. The themes for classes are inspired by Persian folklore and expressions. Our classes are student-centered, and the freedom within our fun and friendly structure encourages the children’s creativity and self-expression. Activities and material used in classes are chosen carefully for each age group.

Music —  All age groups will have 30 to 45 minutes of music during each class. The music section will include singing activities, musical games, movement, storytelling, role playing and instrument exploration. By engaging children in musical games and singing activities they will be able to improve and enhance their Persian vocabulary while having a fun musical time. Music plays an important role in acquisition of language and literacy development. By enhancing the memory and aural skills, music helps children to express their feelings in words, enriches their vocabulary and grammar and creates a fun way to learn about alphabets, which lays the foundation for reading and writing skills. Through musical activities children learn, communicate and gain significant cultural experiences. While music and singing enhances children’s language learning and comprehension skills, it also creates a bridge across cultures and develops compassion toward their parental culture. From Pesteh class, children will form and perform in a choir.

Arts and Crafts —  The arts and crafts portion of the class uses familiar notions such as colors, animals, family, and body parts inspired by Persian folklore and expressions to introduce different aspects of Persian culture.  The games address developmental stages of children by encouraging their creative, physical and vocal participation. We will also have a guided improvisational time at the end of each class based on the words and expressions learned during previous sessions. Every semester, our Pesteh and Gerdou groups will engage in a cultural education project which they’ll be working on throughout the term.

Reading and Writing — We start introducing Persian alphabets from younger age through music, arts and different games. From Pesteh class, children start their formal reading and writing lessons. Pesteh and Gerdou classes have multiple sections based on children’s fluency. In addition to formal reading and writing lessons, each class also includes music, arts and cultural education where children learn about the Persian literature and folklore and different Persian celebrations and traditions. They take virtual trips to different regions of Iran to discover its diverse culture, get introduced to the colorful cuisine and handicrafts of Iran and study its landmarks and historical sites.
