Mehdi Darvishi

Mehdi was born in 1981 in Iran, Karaj. He started playing music since he was 15 years old. After playing Setar for a short period of time, he started studying and playing Daf. His first teacher was Arash Zanganeh who introduced him to the world of Daf playing. Mehdi then started studying with the renowned maestro Bijan Kamkar. Also, studied with famous maestro Navid Afghah, which has greatly influenced his Tonbak playing techniques.
Since 2002, Mehdi started teaching Daf. Throughout the years he has worked with different music groups such as Khalvat Gozideh, Par Savosh, Soufi, Darvish Khan, Masnavi and etc. Also, has worked on sound tracks of multiple films and series for the Iranian and Turkish broadcasting. Mehdi then moved to Michigan in 2011 and has performed with different groups there including Nava ensemble in East Lansing, concert with Secret Seven ensemble in Ann Arbor, performance with Saeed Kamjoon in Great Lakes Folk Festival and etc.
He has recently moved to New York.
